What is ACE? How entries are filed electronically with CBP

ACE, the Automated Commercial Environment, is CBP’s electronic system for import and export processing. See how brokers use it to file entries and why it speeds up release.

The Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is the primary system U.S. Customs and Border Protection uses to process imports and exports. Licensed customs brokers connect to ACE to transmit entry data, pay duties and receive release and status messages electronically.

ACE also works as a “single window”: other government agencies can receive the data they need through the same system, which reduces paperwork and helps cargo move faster. Accurate data from the start is one of the best ways to reduce the chance of holds.
