The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates food, dietary supplements, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices and some other products. Imports in these categories are reviewed at entry, and FDA can examine, sample, detain or refuse shipments that do not comply.
Food shipments generally require a Prior Notice submitted before the goods arrive, and the facilities that make or pack food usually must be registered with FDA. Labeling and product requirements also apply. Share product details with your broker early so the right information is filed with the entry.
